Again,
EpicFu has led me to another miraculous find.
The Emotive.
This gadget can 'read your mind' and give you control with only your thoughts as well as project your facial expressions onto, say, your video game character. Because that's what this is for, so far. Even though when you buy one (reserve yours for only about $300) you get an operating system which allows you to surf the internet, listen to your music, and browse your pictures with the emotiv epoch, you also get a game created especially for the headset (though you're supposedly able to play your other favourite games with it as well).
One of the biggest things that hit me while watching the demo movie/press release was that the company does not like the silent E's on the end of words. Emotiv, Affectiv, and Cognitiv are all mentioned, exactly like that. It's an interesting choice but I guess if you're going with a theme you might as well stick to it like that.
This sort of technology is indeed promising. Who hasn't wished to write a paper just by thinking the words or has gotten tired of button-pushing? But it's also daunting. What if someone accidentally sets off a nuclear weapon with their angry thoughts? Precautions will have to be taken but, all in all, I am looking forward to see what progress comes from things like this.
