Change in Use of Blog

Okay, no longer will this just be a journal of things I write. I'm going to be a 'real' blog now. ~snickers~ I'm going to start to link to outside sites I think cool, maybe do some reviews and such.

First of all, one of the inspirations of me getting interested in some of this stuff. The book Little Brother by Cory Doctrow.

I first read a review of it on one of my Steampunk blogs I keep up with. Remind me to go try to find that link.

But I put it on hold at the library, had Dad pick it up for me while I was at Gov School, and came back with it waiting for me. I only had a few days to read it because someone else had reserved it so I was unable to renew it.

Even without being able to fully dive into it, I loved it. A cyberpunk take on a modern day 1984, the book takes place after a fictional terrorist attack in California. The American Government gets a bit too totalitarian and Marcus, a suspect in the attacks even though he's just an innocent 17 year old kid, fights back with his technological know-how after being carted off, tortured, and losing one of his best friends to the government.

Definitely worth a read even though I wasn't too impressed by the ending.

But the book led me to ARGs (Alternate Reality Games), as did a recent cover of them by the podcast EpicFu. Many of them seem to be about Vampires but one I found, The Lost Ring seems to be about a Lost Game of the Olympics. Not surprisingly, it's sponsered by both the Olympics and McDonalds. With a corporate sponser like McDonalds, I'm not sure if I want to support it but it does seem interesting at the very least.

The next clue thing is released the 24th so I think I'll be lurking at the very least to see what happens.

books, args
