Dora the Explorer is getting a makeover to target the tweens, say Nickleodeon and Mattel. (Why can the girls just move on to more tween things instead of making tween version of kiddy stuff?) The news report that many parents are PO'd (I can understand why...) and there's
a petition asking both companies to reconsider. Luckily, my girl is too old (mentally) for Dora, and because Dora is SO Latina, she never showed much interest in her or the show. (It's kind of alienating, you know... Yeah, we felt left out, man. XD)
And here I must wonder... what's next? Dora, the teenage single mother? All things suggested as merchandise to go along with the new look point to that possibility -- makeup, jewelry, pumps, mini skirts...
Being one who never liked Licca-chan dolls(Japanese Barbie doll) as a little girl, I've always been content that my daughter never got into those dolls or other girly interests (Getting rediculously dolled up for ballet performances took care of any of her impulses for those things, I think. It was clear to me even then that she thought it was too much of a bother. XD)
