We were away this weekend

And it was so nice to be able to use my Jazzy chair away from home. Timber and Bobby (both firemen) dissembled the chair and moved it up to the car for me, then brought it back down a week later (both on Sundays) so I could use it. I went to Business-to-Business Showcase, as I mentioned earlier, and then to the Pageant that Bear's school was holding-- he is the sponsor of the class that had the refreshment booth so he had to be there. Then we took off for Roanoke. We didn't get there until after 11:30 PM. I love that city! It is great to get away to a city where there are NO doctor's appointments!

We earned two free nights' stay at the Holiday Inn there, due to having to go to so many doctor's appointments and staying all night. Earned over several years. We had a beautiful room and it was so large that I had no problems maneuvering my chair -- even had a sink outside of the bathroom that I could use! Loved it! We did go swimming Saturday morning - chilly, but a beautiful pool with easy access.

We went to Quilting Essentials, our favorite quiting store. They are in Salem, VA, not far from Roanoke, on Epperson Road. Great couple are the owners, and we really enjoy visiting with them. I took photos this time, so I will post them soon. Got some fat quarters that I need for the birthday club I am in at the quiting group I own... I'm so far behind in sending them! We also stocked up on lockerhook materials. Saw a gorgeous quilt there called Carpenter's Star and we ordered the pattern for it. We also got some fabric to make a doggie quilt for the woman who took care of Bella for us while we were away. A small "personal sized" quilt that I look forward to making.

We also went to Barnes and Noble, one of my favorite stores of all, following fabric of course. We spent a long time there having a coffee (a treat) and looking at all the books. I ended up getting some reduced priced books because of a special deal for teachers that day. I got Bitter Sweets by Roopa Farooki, which I look very forward to and suspect that frodo_esque would really enjoy it too, as it is set in Calcutta and then London.

Found out that Lesley Kagen, author of Whistling in the Dark which I loved immensely (see my review of it under the tag "books") has a new book out called Land of a Hundred Wonders. I definitely want to read that. Also looked at Moloka'i by Alan Brennert, as several people have raved about it on lists where I am a member. Has anyone here read it? What did you think?

We bought some Christmas presents as well, since we had such a great discount we could use.

Also, in memory of realthog we ate at an excellent Indian restaurant called Nawab in Roanoke. I took some photos there, too, that I'll share later. Bear had his favorite Chicken Jalfrezi and I had my favorite Chicken Tikka Masala. Mmmmm. Very good. Had enough to take some home, which we enjoyed thoroughly!

Today we got bad news. We aren't eligible for an USDA loan for the ramp. We are out of ideas, and here I am, dependant upon two kind-hearted people to take my chair up and down the steep mountainside for very special events. I am so frustrated. The lowest bid we have on the ramp is $15,000. And no, we can't move.

There is so much I could do if only I could get OUT. I could interpret for the deaf (interpreters are very scarce here), and teach sign language to the police department, just for starters.

And sadly, I am sick today. Have been getting ill for a few days now, with a nasty sinus infection. I've been on antibiotics a few days now. Have a fever, and just feel >i>ill, if you know what I mean. Plus, anytime I get out like this, I suffer for it with the fibromyalgia. Harrumph!
