We drove through the Smoky Mountains to get into North Carolina and stopped in the late morning to take a small hike. It's a very beautiful place, and while driving through we occasionally derided the park for being a show-off whenever it was ridiculously beautiful.
We pulled into Asheville and ate at Firestorm, the collectively-run cafe/bookstore where our reading was to be later that evening. Then we walked around and read in a park. It was our first day that we really just sat around a lot.
The reading was great and reasonably well-attended. We met up with our host and went to a pizza party. The people were great, and I admit that I wish we had been able to stay for longer. I am starting to question the practice of touring where you're in every town for less than 24 hours.
