I have been thinking about doing a picspam about dancing but it wasn't until recently that I felt utterly prompted and stirred. SO... I did it lol. These are some of my favorite movie couples dancing. (Film and actual fictional couples only.) Don't be surprised that these are all old/classic movies. :) Like I've said before, I love romance in old movies better.
Ilsa and Rick
Casablanca
(Ingrid Bergman // Humphrey Bogart )
Well, this is too damn brief. But they are cute cute cute.
Lili and Bill
Darling Lili
(Julie Andrews // Rock Hudson)
Well, I'm crazy for violin. I think it's one of the most beautiful sounding instruments ever, along with piano. That I adore Whistling Away The Dark in the first place is enough, but to have they play it on the violin while they dance? It is so beautiful. So is Julie, while Rock Hudson is being his giant self. And they are so head over hells in love by this point. Of course hilarity follows.
Myra and Roy
Waterloo Bridge
(Vivien Leigh // Robert Taylor)
Granted this is not my favorite dance sequence of these two, but as I have spammed that scene alone a while ago, I wanted to feature this other one. These two people are so beautiful that they make you want to hate them. It doesn't fail to amuse me how tiny tiny Vivien was. No matter who she dances with, she's like an elf LOL.
Roy: Happy?
Myra: Yes.
Roy: Completely?
Myra: Yes.
Roy: Ecstatically?
Myra: Yes!
Roy: No doubts?
Myra: No.
Roy: No reservations?
Myra: No.
Roy: No defeatism.
Myra: No.
Roy: Darling, every once in a while I see fear in your eyes. Why? Ah... life's been hard for you, I know that. You had to struggle and endure deprivation but that's all over now. You're safe now. Don't be afraid, you needn't be, ever again. I love you.
Myra: Oh Roy you're so good. You're so...
THEY KISS.
Anyway, Myra and Roy. They just swirl around on the dance floor, people stare at them enviously, and he then guides her out to the terrace where they share a private kiss. Note to future husband: I want to be swept across the dance floor before taken to the balcony for some alone time. Please also try to look like Robert Taylor. TY in advance.
Terry and Nickie
An Affair To Remember
( Deborah Kerr // Cary Grant )
Terry: Hi Hathaway.
Hathaway: Hey. Do me another favor. Let's swap partners. It's the last night out. Everybody does it.
Nickie: They do? How nice, well in your case we'll make an exception.
Terry: *waves him good bye*
And then they proceed to the deck, and he adjusts her coat and then even slides his arms under it to encircle her waist. And they sing along to the music, which is just beyond adorable. They don't do it the cheesy way, they do it the cute way.
Terry: Can't you think of something spiteful, something mean that you could do.
Nickie: Must you be so darn delightful?
Together: You make it easy to be true.
OH DEBORAH KERR, I LOVE YOU BUT YOU ARE THE UNFORTUNATE SUBJECT OF MY ENVY. I love that they act like an old couple... when they are technically a new, cheating couple. And then the chorus starts playing Aud Lang Syne and they become so sad. :( So do I.
Scarlett and Rhett
Gone With The Wind
( Vivien Leigh // Clark Gable)
This guy knows how to win a girl. Literally. By paying 150 dollars in gold. And that pretty much sums up their early relationship, LOL. Oh these two. Mammy was right, they are mules. But hot and intriguing mules. At this point they are my strong number 2 on the favorite couples list, wrestling with Maria and Georg for the number 1 spot lol. I absolutely love bickering couples and they actually do that 95% of the movie in one way or another. I just love their passion. :D
Scarlett: You do waltz divinely, Captain Butler.
Rhett: Don't start flirting with me. I'm not one of your plantation beaux. I want more than flirting from you.
Scarlett: What do you want?
Rhett: I'll tell you, Scarlett O'Hara, if you take that southern belle simper off your face. Some day I want you to say to me the words I heard you say to Ashley Wilkes. "I love you".
Scarlett: That's something you'll never hear from me, Captain Butler, as long as you live.
Uhm, yeah, we all know how THAT turned out lol.
Visually I love this because they shot it in a marvelous way. Plus everyone's so colorful and bright, it's only Rhett and Scarlett that are in black and they stand out. Really cool. I absolutely adore Max Steiner's music. The waltz he composed for this sequence is so beautiful. Their interaction kinda blocks it out, but I've totally fallen in love with it since I got the soundtrack.
I uploaded for those who might want to listen cause they can't recall it, or would just like to have it. It's a Dance montage, the waltz starts at 1.06.

Sound Of Music
(Julie Andrews // Christopher Plummer )
Well, they say dance is damn expressive, here's proof. There's more than sexuality that can be relayed with it. These two fall in love while they dance, you can SEE them come to that same conclusion the viewers do. It's really beautiful and powerful. I think this movie is what really turned me into a romantic. I guess deep down I always have been but until I got hooked on this, I wasn't really a sucker for romantic stuff, not in the sense of romantic gestures and such. I am still picky about it but this is just... beautiful, no better word for it. :D
Maria: I don't remember anymore.
Brigitta: Your face is all red.
Maria: Is it? I don't suppose I'm used to dancing.
I don't suppose you're used to want to jump a respectable sea captain, Maria.
Also, the Ländler is really beautifully composed. What I love about the party sequence is that they basically turned the film's famous songs into waltzes and THEY ARE SO DAMN BEAUTIFUL. I so wish they had been released on the soundtrack. If anyone wants to randomly listen to the Ländler, here you go:
