Let me start by saying that I have often declared that I don't care how many awards my favorite people have, that's not why I like them. Let's face it, there are people who do get overlooked. That remains very true but it doesn't mean I am not happy to see my favorites getting awards and being honored for their work. So since it was Oscar night last night, I decided to do a little picspam of some of my favorite Oscar winning actresses. Instead of working.
For starters, I want to state Katharine Hepburn and Ingrid Bergman are among my favorite Oscar winners and the only reason why I didn't inlude them is because I'M TIRED lol. This picspam took long enough as it is. >_> Yes, I snubbed them. The horror! I suck. lol But let me reassure you, I find them awesome, too. I'll make it up to them next time.
Sandra Bullock
Nominations: 1
For The Blind Side (2009) as Leigh Anne Tuohy
Wins: 1
For The Blind Side (2009) as Leigh Anne Tuohy
WAY TO GO SANDRA. I have been a long time fan and ever since Crash and Infamous I knew she had it in her. She's much more than America's sweetheart, she's extremely funny and witty (as her Oscar speech showcased it) but she's also a very hard working woman. She's a successful producers as well. Not only that, but the Blind Side was a wonderful movie and she simply did a beautiful job. Also, she's 45, she has been in this business for decades. Some get the breaks at the beginning, some become more esteemed later on. I certainly hope this will mean more serious roles for her in the future. But then again, I adored her in The Proposal too, so whatever. Just keep them coming, Sandra.

Grace Kelly

For Mogambo (1953) as Linda Nordley
For The County Girl (1954) as Georgie Elgin
Wins: 1
For The County Girl (1954) as Georgie Elgin
I always say this but I absolutely believe it to be true: her name was so fitting. She was so graceful. I haven't seen the County Girl so I can't say much about it, what I can say is that whatever I saw Grace in, she was wonderful. She's a delight to watch, not only because she's pretty to look at. I loved her in Mogambo with Ava Gardner and Clark Gable (*sighs*) even if I didn't like her character.
And good lord, she was all graceful even as she accepted her Oscar. Watch it

Deborah Kerr

For From Here To Eternity (1954) as Karen Holmes (pictured!)
For The King And I (1957) as as Anna Leonowens

For Separate Tables (1959) as Sibyl Railton-Bell
For The Sundowners (1961) as Ida Carmody
Wins: None
Awarded the Honorary Award in 1994
"An artist of impeccable grace and beauty, a dedicated actress whose motion picture career has always stood for perfection, discipline and elegance."
So, whoever feels sorry for Meryl Streep should take a look at Deborah Kerr and reconsider. Deb was nominated 6 times and never once won -- that makes her a record holder, btw. But thank God the Academy had enough sense to remedy that before it was too late, and she received an Honorary Oscar in 1994 and, in my humble opinion, delivered the most adorable Oscar speech in the Academy's history. It was also utterly touching. And she mentioned Cary Grant! *sighs* It is also quite moving to watch because Deb suffered from Parkinson's and even like that she was still so composed and so very, very eloquent.
I wish I could link you to her speech but it was taken off YouTube. :(
Vivien Leigh
Nominations: 2
For Gone With The Wind (1940) as Scarlett O'Hara
For A Streetcar Named Desire (1952) as Blanche DuBois

I guess her record speaks for itself. That was Vivien Leigh for you, if she got nominated, she killed the competition. I haven't seen Streetcar, but I'm planning to. Knowing a bit more about her life now I suspect it's gonna be a bit hard to watch. I don't think I need to speak about GWTW, she was just a force of nature. And I just can't get over how beautiful she was, which I guess she was sick of hearing... especially in light of the disadvantage it put her in.
I heard she wasn't present at the ceremony when she won her second Oscar but when I first watched her acceptance speech for GWTW, I was quite shocked. I was like "why is she speaking with a British accent?!" lol. Then I remembered that "oh right, she was British." She came across so natural in GWTW that it took me a good while to get used to Vivien and not expect Scarlett all the time. That soft and gentle quality to her tone and mannerism in her speech was so unlike Scarlett, I thought it beautifully proved the point why she was the winner of best actress.

HERE. Julie Andrews
Nominations: 3
For Mary Poppins (1965) as Mary Poppins
For The Sound Of Music (1966) as Maria
For Victor/Victoria (1983) as Victoria Grant / Count Victor Grezhinski
Wins: 1
For Mary Poppins (1965) as Mary Poppins
I have an intense dislike for people who say her Oscar was a consolation prize. Even after all these years some say she got it because she was snubbed of the role of Eliza Doolittle in the movie version of My Fair Lady. Mary Poppins remains one of the most popular family movies of all time. Why do you think that is? Certainly generations of people have long forgotten OR don't even KNOW that she did My Fair Lady on stage. Even if the Academy members decided to take it out on Audrey personally and give Julie an Oscar to cheer up the poor little English girl who was passed over for the role, they wouldn't have gotten away with it if she didn't have the talents. She now has a 40+ year long career behind her and is regarded as a living legend. I wish she had gotten the Oscars for her other roles, too, but like I said about Meryl, Julie has one already and nobody can take that achievement away.
Although she was pretty much a front runner that year, Julie was still VERY OBVIOUSLY surprised when her name was announced. She was just SO SO SO adorable. Also, I personally believe she was at her most gorgeous that night.
