Excitement and terror. In equal parts. Threatening to choke me.
A friend, who used to teach on one of the nearby reservations, before they laid off all of their teachers last spring, was contacted by the school because they were looking for me. Apparently in their complete reorganization of their teaching staff (they laid off EVERYBODY, then invited four of them their old jobs back, but hired everybody else new) they've decided to establish a music program. Previously, the school hadn't had one for YEARS.
Anyway, because I had subbed for my friend, and a few other teachers at the school, they knew me, and they knew that I was music teacher. It's less than a week before the schoolyear starts, and they're still looking for a music teacher, and they called MY FRIEND to ask after ME, to see if she could get ME to apply for their music teacher job!
They have no existing music program. I'll be coming in, expected to teach music to kids K-6, NONE of whom have EVER taken music at school before! I don't know what, if any, resources the school has for music education, but it's probably safest to assume they have nothing.
This is exactly the sort of thing I've always wanted, but now I'm so scared. I don't know if I can do this!
