A mixed bag
So, first of all, I'm WORKING! And it is GLORIOUS!
Today makes it a week that I've been back at the zoo, and I'm loving every minute of it! He already has me helping train newbies. I've taken just a couple of animal pics on my phone. Will try to remember to bring the small camera to work sometime and take some more.
These are red pandas, world champions in the field of cuteness!
And this is a ring-tailed lemur! :D
I've been kind of sitting on this post for a while, so I have much to relate!
Two weekends ago, I got to be service leader at church. Here is the youtube video I posted on the subject.
Then, LAST weekend, I went to Calgary for a readers and writers con called When Words Collide. I'd never been to something that was so little fan con and so much... people who actually know what they're talking about! Guests of honour included Kevin J. Anderson, Jack Whyte, and Kelley Armstrong! Oh! And they had a POET guest! Vanessa Cardui (mature language warning on that last link! But seriously? Click it anyway.)
I haven't done much writing recently beyond fanfic, but by the end of the weekend I had a good three pages handwritten on my ongoing Fae story, and I think I'll be able to keep up at least a bit of momentum going forward.
I went to the Aurora Awards banquet, and although there were quite a few people there who I knew there, they all had people to sit with, so I found someone else who was on her own and had a table to herself and introduced myself. Then, within a few minutes, Kelley Armstrong came over and ASKED IF THIS SEAT WAS TAKEN!!! We both had very quiet moments of squee as we assured her that the seat in question, AT OUR TABLE, was all hers! Then, shortly after, Vanessa Cardui and her date also asked if they could join us!
By the end of dinner, I had a photographer's card for a local gentleman who wants to do an honest-to-God photo shoot with me this fall, when my Pure Spec costume is ready, and Vanessa is all psyched to come up for Pure Spec and perform Dragon Slayer with Apocalypse Kow as backing vocals!!!
Do I do good work, or WHAT!
