So, last week's party was a success.

We had my parents over early in the evening for dinner, because my Dad was leaving bloody early the next morning for a golf trip to Mexico, so they didn't want to stay out late. I had leftover roast lamb from New Years Eve, so I buzzed that in my food processor (which I bought back in October, but had yet to use!) and made *real* shepherd's pie.

The main gathering was small but lively. Most of the people who said they were coming did, and my dear friend pfc_rat who just happened to be in town from Vancouver even came out for a while!

In the aftermath, the house is still fairly tidy, although some of the larger and more awkward dishes are still waiting to be done, and I have had leftover pie for breakfast three mornings running. We plan on taking down the tree tomorrow, so that it's ready for Friday's garbage collection.

On the job front, I find myself wondering why my paperwork always screws up. The application system for teacher certification is bizarre in that you have to apply online AND print it up, sign it and send it in. Now, I understand that you can't legally sign things on the internet, but that begs the question: WHY require online application if you're going to have to print and mail it anyways? Why not just eliminate that entire step? Anyways, my problem is that after submitting the application online and getting redirected to the page you're supposed to print, I only realized after I'd already navigated away from the page (and being a form submission redirect, you CANNOT get back to it later) that it only printed the first page for some reason. So, I called Alberta Education, and explained the situation, and do you know what they told me? They are going to print off the appropriate pages and mail them to me so that I can sign them and mail them BACK. This is BEYOND ridiculous!!!

However, once I have that and my TQS done, Sensei is pretty confident I'll be able to start subbing here in St. Albert almost immediately. I really do need to get working as soon as possible. I'm officially broke, and if I don't start making and saving some money soon, we won't be able to afford our trip to California this summer!
