So now it turns out my mother isn't coming after all. (Stand down red alert; bridge lights return to normal...) On the one hand I'm bitterly disappointed, but on the other... well, I don't have to worry quite as much about doing masses of housework and prep in this godawful heat.

It's been a reasonably busy week, so far. One in which I have had, up til now, almost no desire whatever to write. It happens. And I just go "eh".

This weekend I was treated to baked-from-scratch chocolate cake (with an adorably goofy candle-holder gizmo that played a tinny "Happy Birthday To You") and card with presents.
