The JREF Forum Ghoul Pool

SO there's a Ghoul Pool (registration required) running on the JREF Forum. The idea is, you use whatever means at your disposal to predict three people who will die in 2010. Since I'm an old neopagan tarot-reader, I thought I'd bring out my tarot and make predictions. Here's what I came up with:

Okay. In the spirit of the OP, I have brought out my ( Read more... )

I like it! I'd do the same, but I'm not familiar with tarot, so I shall use the Arthur Dent method (pulling out letters from the Scrabble bag) but slightly modified to save time: I shall randomly select three sets of three words from a dictionary file I found lurking on my Linux laptop, and prognosticate from them. First triplet:

chickenpox, guiding, society

Someone who has been guiding society on the subject of diseases. Clearly this is Phil Plait, enemy of antivaxxers everywhere. I predict he'll be hit on the head by a meteorite. It's how he'd want to have gone.

Vesta, barcarole, stench

I had to look up barcarole. It's a Venetian gondolier's song. Venetian sounds like Venusian, and Vesta is an asteroid. And of course, stench can only refer to the stench of fear when Phil Plait realises he's doomed by the aforementioned meteorite. So it's him again.

Brian, observatory, Rotter

Again with the space references! I swear I'm just randomising these! Nearly the first Google result for "Brian astronomer" points to someone being interviewed by - you guessed it - Phil Plait. I think the Rotter reference refers to Phil being dismayed with the new Harry Potter movie coming out in 2010, which will I'm sure be awful. Perhaps he'll be hit by the meteorite on the way out of the theatre. He'll probably be glad to go.

Eric, you really should sign up and post on your own behalf.

Tried it, and got rejected for some reason, even though I filled in all the details correctly. I guess I'm not skeptical enough or something? They apparently don't keep records of why they reject accounts, so I guess that's that. Odd.

Huh. That's weird. If you like, you can try it again and I'll PM a character reference to Darat on your behalf.
