I noticed that people get real excited about the New Year such that they kiss their love ones and hug as if it is the end of a disaster film and the rescue helicopters have landed. I guess they are happy that they didn't fade away or suddenly undergo spontaneous combustion when the clock struck midnight. I think only I know how to really appreciate the new year and how to celebrate it. By watching Mr. Wizard, well "at least that's what the neighbors kids call him because he shows them the wonders of science in everyday life." You know I was noticing that they kids on that show had to be no older than eight grade. And they were studying science concepts that I didn't learn until high school and sometime college. I mean, has our science education system gone that far down the crapper? Some times I fell like I should just stop what I am doing and start up the old Mr. Wizard concept. I mean, it seems as if we have decided in this new generation that kids don't need science until much later if at all. All they need are sports or other after school activities to excel at and impress other people and be able to follow a career path that leads to [Health and happiness?] NO money and power of course, oh and lots of toys for the kids and you like giant RVs and Tivo... okay I guess Tivo isn't as wasteful as a 1.5 million dollar RV but I couldn't think of anything else at the moment.
Anyway, sorry about the new Years eve rant. I just look around and see the lack of children and adults who want to learn why the light switch works or how to calculate the height of a tree using trigonometry.
