I really hadn't paid much attention to it before, Im guilty of that, but a few days ago i finally became aware of the fact that my 5 year old sister does not completely yet know how to read, but can, in fact, recite all of the jingles and advertisements from television by heart.
Its repulsive, and I wish we didnt have a t.v anymore.

While Beethoven was learning to play piano, a vast majority of European children weren't being educated at all because they weren't rich or of noble background. Nobody was taught about science or anything that occured outside of Europe. Women were rarely taught anything besides elementary and domestic education. Digression to old world education standards would be doing just that--digression. While I agree that TV works mostly to marginalize, homogenize, and disorganize people, I don't think standards of education were any better before it.

i knew how to read at her age.
Futhermore, she starts first grade after this summer.

I dont like t.v. and i've done fine with out it for a while...although i have been guilty of the emotional roller coaster that is oprah.
