I started my new job this week and I can already feel the stress melt off me. I think it will take a little time to recover from the last place, but I'm done worrying about it. I'm not the kind of person to make work my life, but I do care about my environment.
This place is filled with professional people who are laid back and easy going. It's quiet here, but not stifling. I work in a dome building with offices all around the perimeter that have open ceilings, there is a conference room and restrooms taking up a big square in the middle, and my desk is in the open area upstairs. The inside of the dome is beautiful wood, and there's a big skylight in the center, though it's a cloudy window. There are a milliion plants surrounding me. The offices around the perimeter are held by various researchers from departments all over campus, and I work for the department that runs the building and offers support services for the researchers. We offer editing, illustration, photography, video, web and graphic design, and budget management. As the web & graphic designer, I'll get to learn about many of the research projects on campus as I take their information and design it to be relevant to different audiences. I am so excited about this job!
My friend Kat just called and she got the fellowship for the doctoral program at ASU. I'm so excited for her! They love her, as they should, and the entire visit went well. They already have her scheduled to go on a research trip for three weeks in Hawaii this summer before her program even starts.
