It's October 30.  Tomorrow, a few hours before midnight, I am going to cheat a little bit with my friends so that we can have a kick-off without a school night sleepover.  I will begin typing like mad, I will dive back into the awesome world I built last year, and it is going to be awesome.

Earlier today, I went into an Apple store with my mom ( Read more... )

I love it so far. It's just so effortless and fast. The thing is, you have to buy a separate disk drive, but I used to have a netbook so I'm used to that. Also, we decided to pay a couple hundred dollars more for the extra memory - they recommend it if you want it to survive college. Dunno, it'll probably be a lot cheaper when you get yours anyways, I'm paying for the newness. XD

Ah, let's see, my world. The basics are that Earth's population was getting unstable, but we figured out cheap/easy/fast space travel, and we figured out terraforming. So Mars and Venus are inhabited. My main character is Krys, a student in the one major city on Venus, who skips out on her college graduation ceremony for an impromptu road trip. Long story short, she falls in with some crazy nomad space drug dealers. Random shit happens. It's part coming-of-age, part romance, part adventure, and equal parts serious and silly. And I am completely in love with all of my characters.

Most people pick Mars automatically, but the research I've done (one wikipedia article) tells me that Venus's atmosphere would be much easier to convert. And then I thought, why not both? XD So I have Venus as much more developed - they have one huge city, Sidon, and a bunch of towns spreading out around it. And Mars is more agricultural colonies - it's kind of a hippie planet, because rather than getting families and college students and regular people like Venus, it's newer and gets a lot of crazy activists trying to build it up for the future.

The thing about Venus, though, is that its days are longer than an Earth year. People living on Venus live their lives based on Earth time, and have dark and light "seasons." It's pretty cool, though - they get to live for a couple months in a perpetual sunrise. XD
