I'm ALIVE!!!!

Jul 01, 2006 22:09

So I realized today (or actually got a couple of phone messages while I was catching up on some much needed sleep) that I haven't posted anything since May 19th... yeah, I guess it's time. I was just scared about how long it would be...

I did officially get the job at Sprint. While I can't say I've been working my butt off or extremeley bored I'm enjoying it. There are just some days that I've had nothing to do and have been caught asleep (they actually don't mind because they know I'm a light sleeper and if they have something for me to do I get at it.) I enjoy the people I'm working with a lot. Tom, my boss, is really nice and fun to talk to. He's originally from Massachusets(sp?) and he seems to really like me. Alan is a fun guy. Very much a family guy and has brought his family in to meet the interns. He's the one that gives me the hardest work (Usually it's something he has to explain a million times to me) like posting webcasts, setting up for audio/video sessions, and using Lotus Notes(I hate it!!!! Stupid people out in Kansas love it so we have to use it) Ben is pretty cool. We hire him out as a contractor for some of the video work. He's been a camera guy for some pretty big people on the news (he's always ready to teach me things)

Then there's Michael. Pain in the butt, well in a semi-nice way. He's twenty-six and sort of taken on an annoying big brother role for the interns. Seriously, I don't think he does any work. But he's fun to pick on right back. In my second week there, he and I had a rubber band war over the cubicles... lots of fun until Tom walked in and there was at least a plastic bag full of rubber bands all over the floor. He just smiled and went into his office and said nothing. Tony is an awesome guy. He and I hit it off on the first day. He's about my dad's age and has a daughter my age. We agreed on Thursday that if we had gone to the same grade school we would have been expelled in the first week. We plot against everyone in the office together, especially against Michael and Kate, the other intern. Heheh... Tony's awesome at photography and can photoshop better than most of the pros. Seriously, he's been with that program since it came out. For example two weeks ago he had to take 13 pictures of directors at Sprint and tell them they were only getting executive portraits done. But really he was given a project that involved making all of those people bald for a parody off of their boss. Not only did he do it... he did it so well that all the people looked naturally bald and he only did it in 6 hours... which means he did them at an average of 1 every half hour, something most people would take at least 2 to do. Then last there's Kate... the other intern... I had originally thought I was going to hate her. Really I like her pretty well now. SHe's got some of the same interests as me and we're able to talk about everything... including the boy born with three arms and how it would affect his life if the doctors didn't remove it. She and I are pretty much a good team now. On Thursday we were given free reign with one of the portable video cameras (a really nice one costing over $3,000) and had to go shoot some video of a company Saftey Day event... we shot some pretty funny stuff too.

I'm learning so much this summer and hope I can start working with some of the video editing programs next week. I did the teleprompting for a VP the other day and ran sound for the CEO of the company Gary Forsee... I wanted to go run under a desk after embarassing myself in front of him, but it's okay, I'm having lunch with his Executive Assistant(secretary) on Friday.

So in other aspects of my life I got to hang out with Aisha and Theresa yesterday. Definitely fun. Theresa got to drive me in her mom's MG convertable yesterday on the way over to Aisha's, way cool!! GOt to Aisha's and she had made dinner, Chicken Pot Pie!!!! and chili and mashed potatos..mmm.... Had dinner with her, Theresa, Matt and some of his friends. Their place is really nice and perfectly sized for the two of them and their dog. After dinner the guys had their poker night and us girls went out to see Devil Wears Prada... I thought it was a really great movie... definitely made us want to go shopping after the movie but alas everything was closed because it was about 12:30 am. Theresa went back home because she had to open at Starbucks at 5am and Aisha and I went back to her place. We talked and had more of the left overs from dinner and then she took me back home and I got in about 2am... I love those type of nights. I miss hanging out like that when I'm working.

Earlier this summer Theresa, Katy, their mom and Natalie and I went to VA beach and had some fun... thought the weather wasn't cooperating very well, but what do you expect, it was the week before Memorial Day. Last weekend I went up to Atlantic City with Mom to see America. We got there in plenty of rain and had dinner in one of the nice restaurants in the casino. Went to the concert and had a blast... mom and I got kinda tipsy... went and talked with the band after the concert was done and I was surprised yet again when one of the main singers, Gerry Beckley asked me how Bellarmine was... he remembered that I went to Bellarmine... don't know how he does it. Afterward we were still too tipsy to start driving home so we stayed for a bit... went to another of their restaurants and shared some chocolate cake. Well actually let me rephrase that... we shared the Tower. Seven huge layers of chocolate cake so rich we each could only eat a third of the cake... it was seriously about 10" and at least a fourth of the actual cake itself... so good that I can have it only once a year... had it last year too...mmmmm..... I played a couple of slot machines just to say I have and the two people to the side of me won pretty heftily.

We got dad a bird for father's day. He's wanted one since Birdie died last summer. This one is blue whereas our other one was green and yellow. We still can't tell if it's male or female yet so we're calling it Birdie again I think. I've been trying to get it used to being handled unlike our last bird. In one week I've gotten it to sit on my arm(well still in the cage) though today i did get it out of the cage, lucky it's wings were clipped so it couldn't fly too high and get itse;f hurt but I eventually caught it. And I've been forwarned that Jessica took her cats over to Marc's and that Alli is getting a Daschund. It's gonna be weird when I get back to Louisville. But at the same time that I don't want to leave I want to go back too... grrrr... I need some transportation rings....

On another front I've kind of been a bit sick. If you've called in the last week chances are I was either at work or sleeping. If I did happen to pick up you caught me either coming or going from work. I'm sorry if I've miss your calls. I'll try to get back to you when I'm feeling a bit better. The doctor put me on a medicine for my migraines but seriously I shouldn't have to take it every day. They might have to put me on a medicine that supposed to prevent seizures but that they have found works in stopping migraines... Theresa told me to check my blood pressure when I get the headaches to see if something is up. They are also checking my hormone levels to see if anything else is wrong because I've been having some womanly problems that I'll spare my guy friends right now. I've just been exhausted and I don't know if that's from working or something else.

So there's the post you've all been waiting for... anything else I can answer?
