i read "hazel tells laverne" at a poetry conference while we were discussing voice. the author caught the diction and tone (i.e. voice) of this woman perfectly, that's why that one is important.
"manners" was probably written for didactic purpose (if written near 1918), but otherwise, think about the crow and the boy, and then the mare and the man.
the pawnshop one, i think it could be interpretted in a number of different ways... perhaps the latino perspective (and paradox) of the the "apparition" of easy, trade-in opportunity in america.
bruce is just bruce...
and "l(a" is one of my favorite poems ever.
