So, in upstate NY...

Feb 03, 2009 02:18

I come from upstate NY.  When I say 'upstate', I don't mean Westchester, and I don't mean Binghamton.  When I say upstate, I mean Central NY, in the Mohawk Valley, an hour to either Albany or Syracuse.

Many a joke has been made about the people who live up there ("Its like Deliverance on snow tires!", etc), and occasionally its true.

One of the (unfortunate) mainstays of central NY life, especially in the mohawk valley/Utica region, is the infomercials from Forever Leather at the Sangertown mall.  Usually they're on at an ungodly hour of the day, are self-produced, look ridiculous, and people ignore them.

Until a piece of one ended up on Fark.

In it, instead of trying to sell leather coats/gloves/wallets/etc, the dude is ranting about Hillary Clinton and Elliot Spitzer("If Hillary Clinton did something instead of running for President, maybe things would be better...If maybe Spitzer were doing somethin' other than poppin' chicks like bonbons, maybe something would be better...")

All the poor people he managed to drag in to the infomercial to model his stuff are standing in the background, smiling (in a very strained fashion) and trying not to look weirded out.

*sigh*

Perhaps I should just start telling people I'm from Canada?

EDIT:

A comment from a friend of mine who grew up one town over from me, and knows who this guy is:

"His business is fine, he sells drugs."
