Art Journal Pages

Feb 20, 2006 17:21

These pages are sample pages for a friend's project. I suddenly realized that they are due soon so I'm trying to finish them today.

I feel like I'm finally approaching that place where I'm doing art that is true to myself. For a while now, I've picked up stuff in that vintage look and just been like "This isn't me. This isn't the direction I want to go in." I'm not bashing the vintage stuff, I just feel like I'm not getting the right mileage out of it. Ya know?

When I finally realized this, I had to stop and ask myself, what did I want to do. And I know that I love mixed media. I love all the little pieces of paper, all the layers. When making these pages, I loved their thickness and sturdiness. They were just student watercolor paper, but now they have weight. I love that, as silly as it sounds.

What you can see from that last one is that my style is still all over the place . . . but I feel attached to it now.

How I will translate this into art that I sell is something else . . . I don't know yet.
