OK. So I know the Ageha Squad isn’t a single character, but I didn’t want to skip them. :)
First bit of news: I have officially purchased my tickets to go to Ohio! *applause* (I got them via Priceline, of course. SRSLY, who can resist Shatner as The Negotiator?) I’ll be flying in on Thursday 3 September and returning Tuesday 8. *glee*
Second: I finished From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs Basil E Frankweiler on the train ride back home, and cracked open The Golden Ocean. Looking forward to actually finishing an O’Brian book for once. (I tried Master and Commander a few years back â on account of the movie, which I love â and I didn’t like it, so I stopped. However, as a certain someone is very fond of this author, I have no choice but to give him another go. Maybe I’ll appreciate his work this time and wonder what the L was wrong with me back then.)
Third: a quick recap of my day, since today we’re trying radio silence per TN’s recommendation, and writing it down will help me remember it for tomorrow.
Today was an office day, and my boss decided to come in since he’s recuperated sufficiently from his horrible Las Vegas grippe. I just hope a whole day of exposure to this bug won’t make me sick too.
I had a meeting immediately upon arriving, which went pretty well, especially since we had only 30 minutes to meet, which meant Chatty McChatterson wasn’t able to drag the meeting on for 2 hours as usual. I whiled away the rest of the day working on the stuff we discussed. It’s pretty technical, but suffice it to say it involved separating the code (logic) from the presentation (HTML), which was about as much fun as pulling teeth. The users won’t notice a thing, but it will make it a lot easier to make changes in the future, tsumari*, tomorrow.
For lunch, we went to the Emeryville Public Market, and had gyros. Of course, per my new dietary policy, I had the salad instead of fries, and water instead of sodie.
Around 3pm I took a break because I had a bad case of hurty brain, and decided to call Kurt. He’d been down in San Diego visiting his sisters, and had just returned last night. His Mom leaves for Costa Rica on the 11th, which means that very soon he’ll be totally on his own, which he’s never been. I’ve been commissioned to go visit him next weekend to make sure he hasn’t set the house on fire (again) and that the cats are still alive (which I’m sure they will be).
Another noteworthy moment of the day came shortly after my talk with Kurt. The Boss turned around and asked “So, how’s your Italian?”. Perplexed, I answered that I can understand it OK, but don’t speak it. Looking more closely at his monitor, I realized he was doing remote administration on a Windows machine that was set up in Italian. “How do you say, ‘Run as…’ in Italian?”, he asked. “I don’t know.”, I responded. “But ‘Esegui come…’ looks like it might be what you’re looking for.” And it was.
After work I went shopping for groceries, but not before stopping at Quizno’s for a Pesto Turkey Torpedoâ¢. Mmm… so good. Then I came back home, to find a box waiting for me… A box that I hoped none of my housemates had looked at too closely, because it was labelled “Lush Handmade Cosmetics”… o_O Shortly after unpacking it, I received a distress call from the ‘rents, asking for Tech Support. That took a while, as such calls always do. And then I bought my tickets, and now I’m here, writing this post. It’s time for bed, so I’m going to read TGO and call it a night.
*Thought I’d throw in a little Japanese to keep y’all on your toes. This is equivalent to “in other words”.
