Oh God

Why do things always have to come back down to religion? WHY is it that you can be doing great in every aspect of your life but because you dont go to some church all your success are dismissed? Religion starts wars, tears people apart, forms lines that shouldnt be crossed and turns people into self righteous, annoying, little monsters with fingers ( Read more... )

I was raised Catholic but I haven't gone to church regularly in years. I guess I lost faith in the church when it came under scrutiny when priests started getting caught for molesting children and the church was accused of having known about it for years and kept it secret. But my parents and grandmother still go and one of my best friends just suddenly got back into it on his own and now he's SUPER into it and won't stop talking about Saints and stuff and basically preaching to me. It's very frustrating. I don't think I'm being put under as much pressure as you, but I think I have some idea as to what you're going through and you certainly have my sympathy. I guess the ideal thing for you to do would be to move out of that area if you really want a complete break from that religion, since it does dominate things so much there... But I know that's much easier said than done... And I don't feel like you should have to leave... I feel like they should back off... I just wish you could leave if you wanted to, since they aren't ( ... )

I believe in A God. I believe in being a good person. I believe that everyone has the right to believe what they want even if at the end of our days it is wrong or right.

Hey, that sounds fair to me! I suggest a nice vacation from Utah. Like, for a couple years. There are places in the country to live that don't really have much to do with one particular religion. I suggest a big city, where everybody believes something different, and not one particular faith is dominant, or is easily outnumbered by "everybody else". Unlike in Utah, where the delineation is that you are Mormon, or you are not Mormon. Compare that to a place like NYC, where you are one of hundreds, if not thousands, or particular sects, practices, or philosophies.

The older I get, the more certain I am that there is no one right way to live. There are things that I believe or accept as true, but I am still prepared to accept that my way is not the best way; there is no best way.
