you never think it'll happen to you

Well, I was ready to write some more musings about an hour ago. Then shit really hit the fan.

Sam was leaving and I usually wait for the ignition to go on before I turn off the porch light. Well, it was taking him a long time and finally I went outside and asked if he was having trouble finding his keys (he throws them in the truck and leaves it unlocked; he thinks there is nothing of value in it anyway.) So we were looking for awhile and then he said something about his laptop. And I said, oh yeah maybe you put the keys in the case. But he thought that the laptop was still in my car; which was not the case, as he had put it in his truck when we got back to my house. He looked in the truck for his laptop, which was nowhere to be found. At that point we both realized that someone must have stolen his stuff. So that is pretty much un-fucking-believeable. We were nervous about someone coming back for his truck, so we detached the battery and put it in my garage. It's just crazy, but I think we're both a little bit in shock. I let him drive my car home, because he really felt like he needed to go back and tell his family what happened. He had also left his cell phone at home and he's going to be needing that. This wouldn't be such a huge problem, except for the fact that he's pretty sure he does not have a spare key for the ignition. I feel terrible, like I should have told him to lock his car doors or take the laptop inside. But it didn't even register that he put it (the laptop) into an unlocked car. Anyway, I have more stuff about tonight, but I'll save it for another entry. This entry is heavy enough as it is. Right now I just need to get some sleep.
