We have, in work, the worst financial management system in the world. It's called Agresso, although most of us refer to it as Agression because of the mood it generates after usage. One of our managers was showing a new start around this morning.  When he arrived at my desk, he pointed at me: "And here's the most important man in the office."

I'm reminded of the fact that whenever the board of a football team expresses full confidence in its manager, it's a dead cert he'll be out of a job within the week.

New research shows beauticians, hairdressers and soldiers are happier than bankers. Writing in the Financial Times, Lucy Kellaway says this is unsurprising. Hairdressers have happy customers, soldiers have team spirit, but bankers have neither.
