It's that man again: St Mungo, Glasgow's patron saint pops up all over the city.  This representation is by a St Petersburg sculptural team called Sharmanka, now based in Glasgow.

It has all the elements of the city's coat of arms and is beautifully illuminated at night.  He's to been up there on the tower of the Tron Theatre, right in the heart of town since 2003.

The designers offer a lyrical explanation for the concept behind the piece:

The inevitable  question has been arisen:  why we, newcomers from far away, have suggested to make a kinetic St.Mungo? Maybe although  in our childhood we did not sing  the famous Glasgow rhyme:

Here is the bird that never flew.Here is the tree that never grew.Here is the bell that never rang.Here is the fish that never swam.

But  we came from the country which had a sad experience of cutting off the past. So we wanted to let the bird fly, the tree grow, the bell ring and the fish swim again...
