I've been putting it off as long as possible, but now, after the unveiling, I fear I must comment on Pinocchio. Not just any Pinocchio mind you, but just THIS
Pinocchio (you might need to scroll down a wee bit). THIS being a ginormous, 9 meter high flippin' Pinocchio!!! WHY anyone would want a massive statue of an ITALIAN puppet in a western Swedish factory town is a mystery to many. It's not like Pinocchio is a local legend or folk-tale. Neither has there ever been a Pinocchio doll factory in Borås. The artist, Jim Dine, is American.
Ok, I hear some of you saying, what's wrong with having Pinocchio in Borås? So what if he has no local connection; maybe he just looks good in the park. Fine, I say! But why, oh why must he be so damn huge?!!! Super-Mega-Tacky if ya ask me! In a classic case of "mine is bigger;" the Director of Cultural Affairs announced at the unveiling, "Poseidon in Göteborg is only 7 meters high!"
***EDIT***
I marked this entry "adult concepts" due to my use of the F word and later realized that the rude word was in the title (and thus visible to all). Slaps forehead! Duh!
