We officially had the DSL working Tuesday afternoon, but had to wait on our computer tech company to come by to reprogram the firewall and convince it the new modem wasn't an intruder. Boss was about ready to chuck the firewall, but I talked her down because it is important to have.
I've got to call around and find office planners for the office remodel. I asked her yesterday if we could have a small sink and possibly larger fridge put in the little room that will become the employee breakroom and she said definately on the sink and depends on space on the larger fridge. It'll be nice not to have to wash dishes in the bathroom sink, and since the breakroom-to-be is next to my bathroom, at least I know plumbing's already there. (And yeah, I have my own bathroom here... there are three of us and three bathrooms, which is LOVELY after the old job and sharing bathrooms with so many other ladies... I don't give up waiting and use the men's room anymore. haha)
I'm hoping the planner can come up with something good for my work area, which is limited due to a double door opening on one wall, two doors into other rooms (a reception/sitting area on one side and a copy/server room on the other), and windows covering the fourth wall. Right now I don't have enough desk space and my keyboard and mouse are on different levels (underdesk tray versus on desk), which isn't comfortable in the least. Plus the area to exit from behind my desk is narrow and I'm constantly bumping the corner of the desk.
I also need to find some shelving/organizational pieces for the supply "closet". It's large - 5.5 feet long, with 3 12-inch high shelves that are 2 feet deep. Most of the traditional stuff I'm finding at the office supply places is meant for 1 foot deep areas, like cubicle shelving or supply cabinets. That closet is a huge mess, and we've got duplicates of some supplies because we couldn't find the original ones. I'm going to try Target and such for their closet organizing section and see if they have anything workable. If worst comes to worse, I can always find a bunch of wire baskets and plastic bins, I guess.
I'm trying to make maternity leave arrangements. Our fiscal year ends right as I need to go on leave, so audits and year end stuff have to be rescheduled until I come back (end of May or so). Our CPA is cool with that, and if things have to be sooner rather than later, I can always bring the baby and come down to the office and give Bear a baby/wife break. ;-)
The CPA did ask me if we were going to let my temp do the accounting, which really is a sticky point. I don't want anyone else mucking up my books while I'm gone, and finding a pure temp with decent accounting experience could be iffy. Providing everything goes as planned, I'll be able to process the last set of checks before I leave, and that gives me about 2 weeks before the next check run. I'm seriously considering just coming down to process it myself and not leave anything to chance. I've just now cleaned up most of the mess from my predecessor not being much of an accountant but more of an admin assistant who thought she could use Quickbooks. I've got to start looking into a temp by the end of February, because I want at least two weeks of training with him/her in case baby comes early.
Gah. I just checked my pregnancy ticker and saw the 99 days to go. Sheesh. I just hope it feels like time is flying by come March when I'm too big to move anymore. ;-) Technically, as long as Dr. Chang got the c-section date we requested, that's only 91 days to go. I guess we'll have to start getting more serious about collecting baby stuff now. We have a playpen (thanks to my sister's friend) and a bouncy seat (thanks to hubby's stepbro's girlfriend), and we keep getting given baby clothes here and there, but most of them are larger clothes. Gotta find a bassinet or mini-crib we like soon, and my sister is making me a ring sling and a mai tai, so we can skip the whole stroller thing unless Bear wants an umbrella one for backup.
One set had to have two different runs through the washer because they smelled like a cigarette factory. That's frustrating, since they were given to us by someone whose 1-year-old has asthma and needs an inhaler, yet THAT much smoking is going on around the little girl? Sick. Makes me so glad Bear quit smoking and that 90% of our families smoke outside the house. Unfortunately, the conflict area (not surprisingly) is going to be my father-in-law's house once the baby is born. He and his wife smoke cigars inside, and his stepson and the girlfriend both smoke like freight trains.
Speaking of the stepbro, we were "informed" that we should give him our old DVD player (we got a combo for Xmas) so that he can have a BABYSITTER for his kids. He's apparently burned up his because he puts a DVD in and lets it run in a loop all night long so that his kids can go to sleep. No wonder those kids are always wired and hyper. They don't know how to entertain themselves, or even fall asleep on their own.
Enough griping... back to work.
