I posted this to a friend's journal in response to a post, but thought I'd copy it over.
Comcast is now pushing their home phone VoIP service. Our experience with Little Rock's Comcast so far has been nothing short of nightmarish.
We live in town... centrally located, nice neighborhood, should have access to all the services the city has to offer, right?
First the contractor-techs didn't complete the installation of the tv cable in the bedrooms (but lied and said they did). It took several irate calls to get another tech visit *without* having to pay for it. That was month one of Comcast.
Then when we had
amajos's cable/broadband installed in her room at our house, it refused to work - modem had no signal and her DVR/cable box would cut off every 8 minutes or so due to faulty signal (there was enough to run it straight off the TV, just not the extra box). Even with the contractor-tech trying to help grease the wheels, it took TWO weeks to get Comcast's actual employees to show up to both test our incoming lines at the pole (and confirm what the tech as saying about the incoming signal being too low) - then to have the repair crew actually come out to repair lines and/or boost signal (whatever they ended up doing). That was month two of Comcast.
Then last week our broadband went out throughout the house on Tuesday night. We just got it back last night. First we had a Comcast-employed-tech visit - who tested the lines and diagnosed poor signal AGAIN. Then they told us it would be 7-10 days before their repair crew could make line repairs or whatever to boost the signal again. This is our month three of Comcast - and our last month of their "Sign up with us and we'll give you a DISCOUNT!!" period.
They gave us credits for missed time, but credits don't make up for poor service. But what can you do? SBC/AT&T is worse, and that's their only competition in the broadband market.
Needless to say, I won't ever trust them with my home telephone service. I'll stick with MCI for that.
