As I headed to work this morning, an ambulance approached. The car ahead of me pulled over as much as possible (no shoulder in this area) and stopped, and so did I. This still meant that we blocked a lot of our lane, but since the ambulance was coming toward us, we weren't blocking *it ( Read more... )

Nice to see the Viper got his due. I loathe jerks on the road.

I also hate putting gas in my car. I bet most people do. :) It's 2.35 a gallon here. Argh.

No matter how careful I am, I always get the gasoline stink on my hands. Thankfully, this gas station has nice bathrooms when I went in to wash up.

Gas is rather cheap here, thankfully, compared to the rest of the country, but the truck sucks on gas mileage. I want an itty-bitty car again!

Last time I did the sums.... at 83.9 pence a litre, that makes it £3.78 a UK gallon (20% bigger than the US gallon). That's more than double the US price.

That's just for standard unleaded - I'd hate to think what premium would cost me.

I think we determined it was the taxes, right? Because I know that's one of the things our governor keeps "bragging" about on the news: Our gas prices are among the lowest in the country because Arkansas doesn't tack on a zillion taxes to gas. Good thing, considering how rural the state is and the lack of reliable public transportation even in the cities (well, LR, anyway... I won't bespeak the other places with bus systems).

I remember about five years ago when I Was in Scotland it was about $6.80 a gallon.

There have been successive rises in fuel duties here over the last few years. We actually had riots and blockades a few years ago because of the price of fuel.

A friend of mine who lives on the south coast near the Channel Tunnel said it was actually cheaper for him to get a late afternoon day return ticket on the tunnel to France and do his shopping and fill up his car once a week than it was in the UK.

Crazy or what?

I had to buy petrol at a Motorway service area last weekend, and that was almost 89 pence a litre, which would be £4/gallon ($8)

Hooray for the deputy.

Right now it's 2.12 a gallon in this part of Wisconsin. I'm waiting for it to get higher though.

It's about that in the city. I'm lucky that I live out in the next county, right near a major interstate with nice truck stop gas prices. ;-)

That's great that the guy got pulled over. There are too many jerks on the road.
