So
Yesterday a pair of co-workes come around introducing themselves (there's a lot of flow through this building, what with people & departments being moved in and out regularly) and they also said that they're going to put on a Halloween potluck this year. S'good, sez I, and they walk around our little cube farm repeating thier intro. The Dipstick sits opposite of me, so he hears it all (I heard him snort a few times), but his cube is last in the line as you rotate around. Once he sees they're cute women, he ratchets the charm up considerably, while they start out with, oh, we've heard about you. S'par. He does get really excited when they say there will be a costume contest as well as the potluck- it seems that he really wants to show off the samurai costume that he's been working on. I've not heard of it before, but he explains that he's spent several hundred dollars on getting a wrestling ghi (wouldn't want to insult his black belt karate ghi, the one that it took him five trials to qualify for), plus some training weapons (security may not allow for that, tho), and such.
It's nice to see him motivated, but the kicker was when I asked him where he'd pulled his concepts for the costume from-
A Book of Five Rings, or
the Seven Samurai, perhaps?
Oh, but he's never even heard of those... It turned out that just as Kung Fu, was his inspiration to learn karate, he asipired to samurai after seeing
this.
All I can hope is that whatever he has, it isn't contagious.
