Sacked

So after 20 years, 6 months, 2 weeks n some odd days, those on high at my work have decided that they've had enough of my services- I got a conference call late this morning from my boss and his boss to inform me that my (and my department's) services are no longer required.

Eh, I've had worse days, really. And to be sure, it's not like it was all that much of a surprise, outside of the timing- my department at it's core is- err, was - an essentially free service in an increasingly unfree world, and all of our attempts to monetize our core business were half hazard at best. There was some hope that my own skill set could be translated to use elsewhere, but the hard truth is that my heart's not really been in this business for some time, so a lateral move was a dicey proposition to my jaundiced eye. And after having survived so many rounds of layoffs, I find that there is no small amount of relief in saying, it's all over now. There may yet be some contracting work, or I might find an acceptable lateral position after all, or I might win this weeks lottery- we'll see.

Now to get o wit the rest of my life, je?
