Into the Heart of Madness (ch. 2)

I climbed out of the burning wreckage, dazed and confused. The other passengers appeared to have all burned to a crisp. Why was I untouched? What was the laughing old beggar trying to say to me?

*******

If only I could use such an excuse. The fact is, I didn't anticipate the conference to be this busy, and my first priority was taking of the other work-related stuff, so I have to let LJ alone. The conference is taking place at Madden's Resort, which is a beautiful country club with (I was told) one of the top 5 golf courses in the country. The food is great, and the accommodations equally great--I lucked out in getting hooked up with a lake-side cabin. The water is beautiful out here, and I'll post some pictures for you guys as soon as I get back.

As I mentioned, it's been pretty busy, but it's a good busy. There were a lot of discussions, user workshops, breakout sessions, and a lot of schmoozing. I've been learning a lot about how other companies control shrink in different operational environments. But it's also fun to get to know other retail executives on a more personal basis; for example I just came from playing a round of ping pong with the president of the software company that we use to do exception-based reporting, and putting up a decent fight.

Gotta go to sleep now though, there's a full day of work tomorrow.
