Plus, the end was the worst thing that could have happened to the show: now every time (and there are quite a few) Ted says he's in love with a girl (Stella, Victoria, the mother) I don't buy it so it's all so absurd I can't even! I'm starting to hate Ted.
Also, what is wrong with the writers? I wasn't aware of the multiple times those three characters fall for someone: Barney does everything in his power to have a deep meaningful relationship with Nora and then to marry Quinn in the 1-2 years between Robin and Robin (plus, in the middle there's also Robin). And Robin falls hard for Don and Kevin in the same time. Hello??? How many times do you guys fall in love and want to get married every year? Because now that I'm binge-watching it looks so silly to me.
And I get that it's a tv show, but it should try to be realistic if that's what they're selling.
Also: Robin saying yes at the end? WTF?! She spends 8 seasons saying no and letting Ted know she doesn't love him and wants nothing with him (and only one season having feelings for him), she falls in love for real and gets married afterwards, he gets married and has kids; and, after all that, she would really say yes only to not be alone? There is no possibility in my mind for this to work. It looks stupid after the way the characters were played and after 9 seasons of nonexistent chemistry between Robin and Ted.
Plus, the end was the worst thing that could have happened to the show It was so bad! I agree... It ruined Robin as a character... Well it ruined everybody... Robin and Lily's friendship was awesome and strong and they just grow apart like that? Because of Ted? SO PAINFUL... Barney had the best character development EVER always staying on character and it gets ruined completely and brought back to who he was at the beginning... The only cute scene was the one where he holds his child!
The writers had a finale in mind since the beginning, but the story evolved, and - instead of evolvine the finale - they decided to keep it and destroy more than half of the show... That was stupid... They wanted people to react to it, and people did, they hated it and they were loud... No one wanted to buy the DVD so they had to say that they put an alternative finale in them who was just a series of cuts badly made!
Robin is summarized as "the apparently tough girl who doesn't really love Ted but can't stand to be without a boyfriend at the end". So sad.
And Barney is also diminished: after 3 attempts at relationships plus one short marriage, it turns out he never wants to try again? This Robin thing was just a stupid challenge and he ends up having sex with anything that moves until his last days? WTF. (The baby thing was cute, but it's not enough.)
I don't really remember what happened between Lily and Robin (couldn't end the series yet this week), but I'll come back to you.
I had heard they shot several finales during the first season (with Ted's kids) and had them stored to choose in the end which was best. I don't know which were the other finales (I'm not sure I watched any other than the one that was aired) but if they really had nothing better than this, it would have been as easy as shooting the kids on S9 and saying at the end "wow, kids, you look like you are grown up, how long have we been here?" and problem solved!
