Day off: bought books

Taxi 2.4 - Latka *is* a Time Lord. The "pockets" sequence proves it!

Otherwise: God I love Canberra. Lunch with best friend, brief hello to friend from Year 11/12/Uni who works in same Dept as BF, and is coincidentally responsible for some aspect of programming the dreaded CCMS system childcare centres have to use. She couldn't come to lunch this time, but to make up for it we ate at a place now staffed by sister of other schoolfriend, were chatted to by brother of same, then ran into yet another at coffee place. Who updated BF on other friends of hers who turned out to be distant family of college mate #1 :)

Who needs bleedin' Facebook, eh!

Else: Whenever someone on TQC asks about "classic" books etc about half the posters list The Hunger Games. I keep forgetting they're all Young Females. Found it today, was (stupidly, all things considered) disappointed to see it's not venerable at all, but some modern thing. Oh well. Bought it anyway, let's see why they're all so OMG about it. (For the record: one-word recommendation by Stephenie Meyers on front cover is not encouraging)

Good stuff: Mieville's Kraken and Cave's Death of Bunny Munro are finally out in normal paperback; also found preloved 1975 imprint of Z for Zachariah (Lion ed.) - YES! - and a battered LWT tie-in edition of Delderfield's The Avenue Goes To War. Tickles me far more than it should that a main character is called Jim Carver :) Also: picked up a Gaby Lita Bembo & Stukas du Zaire CD for $15 - what a day :)

friends, music, books
