Giving me merry hell since last week - frosty mornings and scrubbing nicotine off the walls at my parents' most likely - but it's clearly not just muscular strain. Not 'appy Jan. Middle sis recommends rheumatologist; Google opaque on whether referrals are needed to see the buggers. Bueller?

Kimberly-tour-operating half-brother, from whom nobody has heard for about 7 years, has just contacted Mum by email. This is very very good because not knowing where he is or what he's doing has been pulling her to bits (on top of everything else). He's been all over the place - not drifting exactly, but working his way round various industries outback - bankrupted (something to do with inroads by mining into tour areas), then went into metal trades, got injured, odd-jobbed, now looking for backing to improve infrastructure on a large outback grazing lease. Tone of his email is warm, he invites contact and makes the point that he chose (for various reasons, and was forced to by others) to cut most people in his life out, not just Mum, so that should reassure her somewhat.
Funny, I was just thinking about him the other day - rewatching Births, Marriages and Deaths which has that substory about Molly's given-up son etc - plus Mum has his photo up in the bedroom. Seems his adoptive Mum isn't terribly well at the moment, and has just taken the step from home to Home; perhaps that's what's prompted him to get back in touch. Or perhaps not. They've always had a bit of a "link", somehow - both are very intuitively spiritual people, with faith in dreams etc, and I'm pretty sure both feel they've communicated in that way in the past.

Good night with the guys yesterday - small gathering, just a catch-up kind of thing. Newest Niece is 9 months old today and still an utterly charming creature - inquisitive, individual, confident, idiosyncratic. Hubby actually held her for the first time yesterday - hopefully she'll be a Real Person to him now and not just Someone's Baby. Got some photos; may post one or two here when I've had a chance to check them out.
Beautiful sunny weather this weekend - in middle of Weeding Binge. Should get back to it I suppose :) grape hyacinths everywhere and the wattles are blooming like crazy.
