What is it about Not Being At Work that makes perfectly ordinary (in)activity so very much more enjoyable?
Saw Mum and Dad today - been meaning to catch up since the cancelled Father's Day thingie; as hubby won't go there and they aren't well enough to come here it makes seeing them a tad more awkward than it should be. And to be honest I don't make nearly enough time to see them, ordinarily. So: time made.
And many hours im garten spent. Which was the whole point of today; I know there's no substantive difference between me working in the garden in the weekend (with hubby around somewhere doing whatever) and me doing it on a weekday (with nobody else around for miles), but somehow it just feels nicer. Just me an' the plants, etc. I'm really starting to feel not having had a Long Holiday this year - a few more days away from people might be just the ticket.
Exhumed path is now twice as big; destroyed bits of garden elsewhere to obtain the bricks to continue it - still in two minds about that. All a bit bodgy, but end result is a nice paved area near the orchard for sitting & watching the apple blossom (or indeed wheelbarrow/mower parking. Whatever).
No rocks dropped on feet today ;p but a nice series of bruises from lifting split telegraph poles. And cactus spines all over the place, again.
[1] Old path - replaced bricks with granite. Jury out on how it looks, so I'll leave the rest until Saturday. [2] Exhumed path - it was still there :) now follows corner - orchard bed corner now curved. [3][4] Middle bed: finally has rocks all the way round. [5] Orchard: blueberries and ancient apple in bloom; some small apricots already evident. [6] New paving - need more bricks, really - I'd like to carry on till the end of the sleeper (that's where I park the ride-on mower, usually, and having to dig out 1-foot weeds every three months is getting old :) [7] see that light green growth on the weeds? - all in the last five days. Remulching fruit bed to cope... [8][9] flowers out on everything, since the rain :) [10] succulent bed coming along nicely - nearly 20cm across now. Think I need more of these...
