Stimulus Package thingie: I get it. Got it. Whatever. Why, though? Our household income isn't *low*, not by any reasonable definition. Okay, I earn peanuts, but hubby doesn't. The Krudd money was paid on an individual basis, not household, depending on your declared income last taxation year. So you could find that you qualify for one amount, and hubby for less, depending on your individual incomes.
I don't see the point of it, really I don't, but I love my new leather briefcase, wallet and gloves, so I'm not complaining.

Oh, and as for it being economically defensible? Hmm... I guess if you rush out and spend it, then it's done its job. But if you save it, or pay it off a loan or credit card, it's a futile gesture at best on behalf of the govt.

So all the sensible things one is *supposed* to do with money are suddenly Bad? :)

Them as genuinely needs the dosh may not *have* that freedom to rebel. Although I suppose Spending On Bills is still Spending for the purposes of the exercise... Just not as much fun :(

I hear you! If someone is behind in the rent, or needing to make a credit card repayment, or even saving for a trip, they're not going to be stimulating the economy too much. I think the govt is counting on the fact that most people treat gifts and bonuses as additional opportunities to spend rather than save. When it comes to finance, most people aren't sensible in the least.
