Babies at the zoo are cute...

So we decided to go to the zoo today (and let Alison play hookie, oops, we're bad parents) since we won't get another chance before Alison goes to her father's for their month vacation. I haven't been to the zoo since I was a little kid, so it was really fun on its own.

The BABY, though, had an absolute blast. I wasn't sure at first if she'd like it, or if she'd even be able to see some of the animals (I have no idea how far away babies can see, or if she can see things in aquariums for what they are), but as soon as we walked up to the first exhibit, the seal tank, she gets these really big eyes and starts pointing at this big guy floating close to the glass.

She was just so excited the whole time, it was so cute. She kept pointing at all the animals she saw, even the normal birds flying around. I can't tell if she didn't like anything, but she got really excited to see the hippos, since they were only a sheet of glass away from her. Then while I'm watching the hippos swim away, she starts pointing over my shoulder and "ooh ooh!"ing, so I look and I see, through a little break in the trees, an elephant across the lake.

She got really excited at the tiger exhibit. One of her favorite things on the face of the earth is the stuffed Tigger that her grandpa got her for Christmas, so when a tiger got up and started walking, she started reaching out her arms going "Ti! Ti!"

Her favorite, though, I think was the Ape house. She got vocally excited when we saw the chimps playing, and was fascinated by an orangitan who was grooming himself next to the glass. Then we got into the Gorilla pen, and it was all over. There was Ackbar, the big old alpha male, lounging in a tree against the wall, looking like he was about to say "Wazzap." The females came out and climbed on top of the glass over us with the babies and (after peeing on the glass *eye roll*) started pressing their faces down to see us. One of the mother gorillas was looking right at her, so Emily looked up and started waving and talking to her. It was, I think, the cutest thing I've ever seen. We got to the gift shop, and Emily just latched on to this little stuffed gorilla, so that was her present for the day. While we were walking out I said "So what are you going to name your gorilla, Emmie?" and she said something that sounded like "Oo-lee!", so the thing's name is Ulie.

Hehe, it was such a fun day.
