So apparently everybody is buzzing about general McChrystal's
improvident interview with Rolling Stone. I read the whole piece --
and recommend it. There's a lot of interesting meat in the piece that isn't being excerpted.
The whole thing reminds me a bit of General Patton. McChrystal is a soldier's soldier, a rule-breaker, and apparently a pretty good combat commander. He can induce strong loyalty from his subordinates He also can't keep his mouth shut.
Everybody is talking about the two choices being "forgive him or fire him". Can Obama do what Eisenhower did, and have McChrystal recalled to the states in disgrace, put on ice for a while, and told he can have a command again once he's learned a bit more self control?
