Today I am grateful for
amyrayh's apparently boundless energy and patience.
Because she can sit at the dock and do her combination of fishing, squid jigging, and crabbing for HOURS at a time without getting bored off her ass.
Over the last 2 nights [Friday and Saturday], she and
shatterpath caught 99 squid. There were the 20 from last night [of which
shatterpath got 2] and then the 79 that
amyrayh caught Friday night. They've all been cleaned of heads and guts, and most of them frozen for later consumption. When they get thawed out, they'll need to have the skin taken off and the quills removed, but other than that, they're good to go. There's even a small package of 6 for me in the freezer for one of my trips down to play Nanny for
will_i_am_oak. Those will be added to the crab already in the freezer down there, a can of clams, and a can of smoked oysters, to be made into my own version of a cioppino. Dunno if the boy will eat it or not, but I certainly will.
amyrayh actually made the stuffed squid again today. The bells were stuffed with a dip/mixture of cream cheese, sour cream, kewpie mayo, crab meat, Anaheim peppers, shallots, and a few spices. The dip is actually really good when heated up in the oven and eaten with tortilla chips. But I finally tasted the stuffed squid bells, as I hadn't been feeling up to it the last time she made them. I... wasn't impressed. It was a textural issue for me, as the bells had a very rubbery feel to me, which just rather put me off from them. Which is a bummer, but clearly I like my calamari a little crispier. *shrugs*
And I've just realized that I need a good cooking icon, damn it!
