A bits and bobs kind of update...

Oct 30, 2010 00:16

So let me start this by saying that I've come to a very interesting conclusion while working my way throught Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way. The more I have worked thorugh it [I'm currently in Week 5] and more specifically, the more that I have done my morning pages, the less prone I have been to posting in DW/LJ. In part, I think that's because my morning pages have become a book of accountancy for me, of a sort. I"m supposed to be doing 3 handwritten pages of stream of consciousness first thing in the morning. And yet, what my "stream of consciousness" has turned into is primarily a discussion of the events of the day before and the things coming up to be done. Occasionally something else will worm its way in there, but primarily it's an accounting of my days. And because we're pretty much supposed to write the pages and leave them be, I kind of close the book on the things I discuss in them. It's become a very interesting phenomenon for me to consider. Especially because I appear to be doing my pages incorrectly, according to the book. *shrugs* It's something I need to ponder some more, I guess...

Anyway... Where was I going with this post? An update, yes...

So last weekend was the Witches Ball and craft show. It was a very long day, to say the least. We were out the door at approximately 0835 and didn't get home until about 0030 or 0100. It wasn't too bad for a first show. It wasn't great, but it didn't totally suck either. After expenses [and a couple of AWESOME Yule gifts we found for cheap], we made about $50. We'll definitely do the show again next year, as well as the psychic fair. We'll just tailor what we're selling for the audience more appropriately. It would seem that a lot of our jewelry is a bit more high-end than the local pagans wanted to shell out money for. I'm not sure what the issue was with the soaps I made. Everyone was praising the rainbow bars and impressed by them, but only one person bought one. WTF? Is it because those bars are more expensive than the others? Well, fuck yeah, they are. More materials and more time involved. I sold like 3 of the jars of bath salts and a handful of the other soaps and bath salts. The little soaps didn't sell tho, which really surprised me. But yeah, we'll definitely do this again. And
shatterpath and I are going to start attending the monthly meet-ups for the Mystic Star group that put on both events. There were some people in the group that rubbed us the wrong way, particularly the harridan. *growls* And then there were others who were totally awesome, including the couple in charge, who reminded me a whole lot of Ladytree and Wolfpac from Gatecon. In fact, the guy reminded me so much of Wolfpac, it was really eerie: tone of voice, general looks, energy, attitude. Really eerie! LOL!

shatterpath has found a couple more shows for us to check out, including 2 on my birthday. We're deciding which one we're going to do that day, tho we're leaning toward the Scandinavian Bazaar held by the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo. We're still waiting to hear on one or two for November, and
shatterpath's also going to look into a show the weekend before both Yule and Christmas, after she gets back from SoCal [more on that in a bit]. One last hurrah for people doing last minute gift shopping, you know?

So that SoCal thing...
shatterpath's mom and sister are flying her down to SoCal the 8th-15th of December. It'll be a chance for an early Giftmas with her family, as well as the chance to be an apartment/kitty sitter for her sister for a few days. I think it'll be nice for her to go down there. It'll be me and amyrayh here with the cats and fish, but that's all good. I have already decided that I'm going to be working on
shatterpath's Yule gifts during that week that she's gone. In fact, it's the best time to do so!

And speaking of Yule/Giftmas gifts, I have been collecting all sorts of ideas for gifts. Now comes the time where I have to narrow down my list and start making things for the family. I'd initially wanted to make something for all of my blood family -- just a little ornament or something -- but I'm finding that I just don't have the time this year. So once again, they'll get cards and our Yule letter. I'll start on something more for the family earlier next year. As for the chosen family, I have five people that I'm planning to make things for ::
shatterpath, amyrayh, will_i_am_oak, Lorre, and darkhawkhealer. darkhawkhealer will actually be here early the week of Thanksgiving, so she'll be getting her gifts early [and late, because we have her stuff from last year still *facepalm*]. I'm not sure when Lorre and will_i_am_oak are coming up, but we'll do gifts with them, as well.

I am HIDEOUSLY behind on the 30 day TV meme about Poltergeist: the Legacy. I'm currently debating if I'll try to catch up on the whole rest of the month this weekend and complete it on the day it was supposed to be done [Sunday] or just pick up from where I left off on it tomorrow. Try to keep posting daily again for it... I'm probably going to lean more toward the latter, simply because NaNo starts on Monday, and I've got a doozy of a story to work on. Speaking of NaNo, let me know if you want on the NaNo filter or not. I'm not 100% sure I'll use it this year, as there hasn't been much interest in recent years. But we'll see what happens this year... And I need to get some NaNo icons for this year before I forget. I've completely spaced on adding in any Samhain icons...

Samhain is Sunday. Am planning on making colcannon again. Haven't made it in a while, but
shatterpath and I used to make it every year on Samhain. Am planning to do some divination on Sunday, but am not sure if I'll do any kind of draw for the circle/flist or public yet. If I do, it'll end up being a last minute thing for the circle/flist only. Am also planning to reinstate the "year of study" starting on the day after Samhain. I'm still finalizing what I'll study for the next year, but right now I'm leaning toward divination [emphasis on new tarot decsk/spreads and new rune spreads] and color theory. Beyond that? No idea at the present moment. Not even sure what kind of ritual we're going to do this year either, but I know it'll somehow involve the last of the apples on the columnar tree.

Anyway, there was something else I wanted to talk about, but I don't remember what it is atm. I know that I'll be posting up for the Inner Child Secret Santa - 2010 Edition and sign-ups for the FemSlash Advent Calendar :: Dead of Winter 2010 over the weekend. Lots of things to come, trust me...
