National Novel Writing Month

Nov 03, 2010 11:41

So this month I'm joining in the NaNoWriMo competition. 50,000 words by November 30th.

I've never before attempted a novel with this much organization. On the 1st of the month I actually sat down and made a rough outline, and typed out 1,730 words of chapter one. I'm going to try and write at least 1700 a day (although yesterday I didn't make it past 1300, but still) and actually finish something. Even if it's crap, even if it's not my best work... I can ALWAYS edit it later.

Even though the story is one I've been thinking about for a while now -I'm starting to feel this odd sense of disgust for it. Like I'd rather just drop it and start somewhere else. I keep telling myself that I should ignore that, because it's a trap for my motivation to fall into. If I drop the story I've already started, I'd have to write twice as much in a few days just to be on-target as far as my word goals.

The other story ideas I've had, however, could just as easily become outlines and wait for this one to get finished. Some ideas come back better when you've let them sit a while. Anyway, I'm still in my pajamas and I plan to drink some coffee and attempt another couple thousand words today.

Wish me luck!
