This company's PTO policy sucks

I hate the fact that DR does not allow you to rollover any PTO and the fact that you don't get paid for any unused time.  It really sucks, and this is the first year it has mattered to me.  C'mon, at least a week.  i understand that you don't want to pay it out if someone rolls over 4 weeks and resigns mid way through the year.  That's a lot of money to pay out.

Normally I save PTO and take lots of time of in December, much like I am this year (only work 9 days all month) but there are others that don't get that chance (lor don't take it).  My roommate has at least 2, probably 3 weeks of vacation left to take before the end of the year.  He is using 6 days.  He will easily lose the remaining week and not get paid for it.

the reason it matters to me now is that my best friend is going to China for business in January and asked if I want to join him.  The money isn't the issue, DR stock is near $60.  The PTO is.  Yes, I could probably get approved to blow 2 of my first weeks in the first month of the year, but that only leaves me with 2 weeks and the holidays for the remaining 11 months.  With trying to go to Vegas and Taking the last week of the year off, that doesn't leave a whole lot of space for anything else.  if I could have rolled 5-6 days from this year over, it would have been much better.
