OP's caption: "This whole "Disney Twisted Tales" collection and their premises are just too intereresting to ignore. AND LOOK AT THOSE COVER ARTS!!!!"
I love this series. I love that the writers stay true to the original, theatrically released, Disney animated films. There are no references to the live action movies and I love that. Sometimes the sequels are mentioned (like in the Aladdin installment,
A Whole New World), but not often. It's usually just the first classicly animated film, no direct-to-VHS/DVD sequels. And it looks like the series is only expanding to include Pixar films. Also the cover art is really gorgeous. I also love how Liz Braswell especially, never "softens" or "mellows out" the villains. Even though some elements of the plot are altered, the villains remain just as evil, cruel, bloodthirsty, malicious, cunning, power-hungry as they were in their original films. And I think that's really important. Both the
Maleficent franchise and the
Alice in Wonderland live action movies and also the recent
Cruella film gave the villains sympathetic qualities, including: childhood trauma, sexual abuse, death of a loved one, etc. And it's definitely interesting to imagine Disney Villains before they became "evil", but it is really refreshing to see these baddies in their full evil form. I also think it takes away a bit from the actual main characters (princesses and princes and heroines), by making the villains the anti-heroes. Reading these books is so nostalgic. It feels really nice that the writers respect the animation of the orginal classic films.
Take a look at this post - (I made it a long time ago, haha). Notice that Liz Braswell actually describes the niche in the wall where Lumiere is sitting. I love that. I love the nods to Disney animation. Makes my little Disney geek heart so happy. 😀
