I loved that in Rise of the Isle of the Lost by Melissa de la Cruz, there is a reference to this scene on page 46.
"Mal," Evie said in a scolding tone.
"What?" Mal replied, even as she was holding a well-worn brown tome etched with a golden dragon on its cover.
"You're using your spell book again, aren't you?" she said accusingly.
I love that Melissa de la Cruz really tries to ensure continuity between the book series and the movie franchise. For example, in the first book, there is mention of a " Harriet Hook", and in the second book, it is clarified that Harriet is Harry Hook's sister. It really is such a wonderful effort, especially because each book is meant to be a "prequel" to its corresponding movie.
Anyhow I was happy to see a reference to this scene in Descendants 2. I also love that Mal and Evie's interactions take place in the bedroom. In the most innocent way, obviously lol. It's girl talk. It is confusing to me though why Mal is denied a part of herself. Mal is her mother's daughter, she is a witch by birthright, just like Evie. It's kind of sad that "fitting in" to Auradon means completely shutting out their villian origins.
