Got all ready to head out on time for a 2 pm house call. Not an easy task with a baby around. Had Carl napping quietly. Then received an e-mail that we had to reschedule for 3:30 pm. URGH!!!
I had to leave when Carl woke up from his nap and started fussing, so Dad was left with Fussy Baby and I got on the road a bit late, got there ~ 15 min. late.

Wish I was going to see you in San Diego (AAV/AEMV conference) but don't think I can swing it with the new baby since I wouldn't be allowed to bring him in to lectures and hubby wouldn't be able to get the time off from his new job to watch the baby. So hopefully you'll be coming to Seattle, my digs, next year?

Carl and I went to the Swedish Special Care Baby reunion (June 6).
It was really crowded and the only person I recognized there was Sheila from the March of Dimes. Maybe if we'd stayed longer more of the nurses would have come over, but Carl was too young for most of the activities so. we were only there for 30 - 45 minutes.
Nevertheless, we had fun and I'm glad we went. I was expecting it might be like that anyway. Even if I didn't get to see "our" nurses, I still wanted to express our gratitude to everyone in Swedish Special Care, and to add our baby to all the other healthy ones who showed up to give them an encouraging, positive feeling to help them with all they have to deal with.
I think Carl had fun watching all the little ones playing under the bubble machine. I appreciated seeing the huge numbers of happy kids there (and quite a few identical multiples!), knowing they had also been in the NICU/ISCU in the past and that they represented only a small percentage of the babies who have passed through there!
I expect we'll go again next year. Carl will be older and will be able to appreciate more of the many fun activities they had.
As an aside, they announced they got enough donations that they'll be adding 15 beds to the NICU!
1:15pm
Getting ready to take Carl in for his second PCV vaccine. I'm a bit nervous, because when he had his first PCV vaccine, he got a fever of 102.5
6:35pm
Has it been 4 hours since Carl's last acetaminophen dose yet? No... hang in there for another 20 minutes, Carl! We'll try a cool compress.
7:08pm
Have some hours to go still before I'll know if we've managed to prevent a fever this time with the acetaminophen. Last time it was 1 am when I was calling the emergency nurse line... But at least so far there's no fever.
7:25pm
A combination of cool compress, sweet cherry-flavored acetaminophen, and a nursing session has Carl relaxing to some lullabies right now...
7:37pm
Now if I could just hit a "mute" button on Pippin to stop the barking and keep him from startling Carl... Speaking of Pippin... Pippin's been acting "off" for days now. Hard to deal with yet ANOTHER sick pet on top of taking care of Carl.
Seemed to be a neck thing, I worried I'd have to do an MRI or CT scan on Pippin's neck. Now I think there's swelling on 1 side, and I'm hoping it's just a simple cat scratch infection!
You should have seen how happy he was to gulp down his antibiotic pills in some of the chicken baby food I usually use to hide the cats' medicine! Now if Carl could just rest long enough for me to find the Metacam so I can give Pippin an anti-inflammatory...
7:47pm
No such luck - Carl's crying again. Earlier I was able to distract him from crying by playing games (I learned the sign language for "Itsy Bitsy Spider" while we played) but It'm not sure that will work any more... leaving computer now to go dance with Carl. (Wish I could eat!)
8:06pm
Ah, another nursing session is working to calm Carl for the moment. In the meantime, my stomach is rumbling... & I'm wondering when I'll hear from Dan who has been Tweetless today (in SF for the Apple conference). I want to know how he makes rockfish, in case I get a chance to cook it tonight!
10:16pm
Carl's sleeping. Rockfish w/ tarragon & lemon juice, spinach w/ coconut milk, brown rice & wild rice - eating @ 10 pm, listening to the rain (and the washing machine washing the diapers!)

7 am feeding, acetaminophen dose, temperature check, and diaper change: still no fever. I think we've made it! Thank you, acetaminophen! (and Thank you April & Susan for your support!) I'm going back to sleep now, if Carl will let me.
At last check, he was still gaining 1 oz a day. He should start slowing down soon - or he'll be 30 # at 1 year!
