I had no idea about this. Apparently, Xylitol (an artificial sweetener used in sugarless gum & candy, among other things) is EXTREMELY poisonous to dogs. Just a couple sticks of sugarless gum can make a dog really really sick (or actually kill a small dog) and a pack of sugarless gum is enough to kill a large dog ( Read more... )

I'm watching a "Nova" episode about cuttlefish. Man, those are some bizarre, fascinating critters. Apparently they're quite intelligent too. I've only seen a bit of this, but I recorded an earlier showing, so sometime when I feel like really paying attention I'll watch the whole thing through. Well, I thought the Springer had an excellent chance at Best in Show, and I was right! All through the BIS judging I thought it was between the Springer and the PBGV (which was by far the crowd favorite ... CUTE little critter). Guide panda!

...Okay, it's a guide horse named Panda, but it's still cool as hell.

Service animals just make me smile. It's such a most awesomely cool thing. Ponies, dogs, monkeys, whatever. It's just so cool.

An adult giant panda defecates over 30 times a day. (I am not making this up.) I guess all that bamboo has a certain effect on a critter...

My aunt in Atlanta got to see the new baby panda today, on her very first day of being on display to the public! I am so envious. I check in on the pandacam pretty much every day, and the little fluffball ( Read more... )
