I'm gonna post some of the pictures I took at the Georgia Aquarium over Christmas. Beluga whales, whale sharks, a grumpy giant grouper, and so on.
Sea Otters! These guys were really cute. While I was watching them, a zookeeper came in and dumped a big pile of ice cubes right by the viewing window and the otters had a great time playing in the pile.
Beluga Whales!
You can kinda get an idea of the size of these guys by noticing the people's heads down at the bottom of the picture.
They have the greatest faces. And the beluga whale is the only cetacean that can swivel its neck like a human can (which makes them look oddly human at times).
Whale Sharks!
They have two of these guys, Ralph and Norton. They aren't full-grown yet; so far they are only about 16-17 feet long. Here you can get a good full-body view of one of them:
There was a tunnel thingie where the fish could swim right over your head, which was pretty impressive. Cue up the Jaws theme!
And this shot gives you some idea of the biggest viewing window in the whale shark tank -- this window is the size of a good-sized movie screen. Again, notice the people at the bottom of the frame for scale. The biggest critter in the picture is a whale shark.
Grumpy Giant Grouper
This guy was just cool. For scale, I think the yellow guys swimming around him were about the size of a person's hand.
Extreme Close-Up! No, this is not a picture of me before my caffeine in the morning. :P
Cuttlefish! This is just a weird, weird critter. It has little tentacles on its, er, face? Up front, anyway, where the eyes are.
Jellyfish! I forget what kind this is, but it's a big sting-y one. Really cool to watch. Plus I just like how the picture came out.
