August's question: Journals vs B/Vlogging?
I'm not really a blogger. Shocker, right? I've kept a journal for almost as long as I can remember, but writing in a journal is not the same as blogging. Most blogs are for an audience, even if it's an assumed audience, and it requires more than just writing what you feel. Journals are usually private and blogs are usually public, journals are from the hip, from the heart, mind. Blogs, successful ones anyway, have to find some common ground with whomever may be reading.
With all that said, vlogs are a different animal altogether. Vlogs take away some of the mystery that is present in a blog. Vlogs are more about the person and blogs are more about the content. It's easy to not think about the person delivering their opinion when they themselves have not been presented to you and you're free to focus on what that person is trying to say than any other outside, and often superfluous influences. The camera not being my medium, I stay away from vlogging, though I do enjoy watching those of others.
In blogging and journals, I prefer the journal because it gives me more freedom to express myself and what I want/need to say. I don't have to worry about an audience or anyone's comments because no one is looking at my journal but me. The past few journals I've had are full of drawings and movie ticket stubs and all kinds of stuff like that that just isn't possible in an electronic medium. Even with all the customizing and modifications that are available on LJ and similar sites, it can't be as personal as the physical representation of my thoughts and feelings.
When this project is over, which I am not enjoying as much 8 months in, lol, I don't see myself ever attempting anything like it again. I'll be glad to say I wrote this much non-fiction in a year, but it's nothing like my journal.
difference,
journal,
vlog,
blog
