Post of Fun!

Or more fun than it's been around my LJ lately, anyway. It's been a tough summer for me, and I haven't been posting much, so I wanted to make a post that doesn't involve me whining and involves things my flist may actually be interested in. *waves to new friends*

1. Let's start off with a rec. quasar273 asked me to beta a story a little before the SGA season began. I wasn't able to (see above, re: horrible, tough summer), but that meant I got the joy of being a reader when she posted it. Opportunity Knocks is amnesia fic of a sort, and it is awesome. Funny and fluffy and angsty and yay, amnesia fic! The summary says: A digruntled minion hands Rodney an opportunity in disguise. I've wanted to rec this for a while. Go read it, if you haven't, and give quasar some love.

2. I've also been thinking about this: Can I rec a rec site? Sure I can! Rec Room, run by cupidsbow was pretty much my intro to SGA fic back when it was a comm on livejournal, and it's still my favorite rec site now that it's on delicious.com. (Digression: does anyone else miss the .us that used to be on the end? I always thought that was cute.) cupidsbow is really well organized, and I have no idea how she manages to devour so many stories and vids. You will not go wrong with her recs. I um, have a button for rec_room on my bookmark toolbar, that I press a *lot*. Multi-fandom.

3. I don't listen to pop music, for the most part. I know, get your jaws off the floor. So I'm a bit late to this party. I've been peripherally aware of the whole "I Kissed A Girl," song thing for a while, but haven't paid much attention. I never actually heard the song, and I sort of vaguely figured it was a remake of the old Jill Sobule song. Then I saw a news report about it, and seriously, this is news? This is a hit song? Besides being truly bad, the whole thing strikes me as so fifteen years ago. Aren't we past that? Are we as a culture seriously still titillated by the idea of two girls getting it on? I mean on a case by case basis, sure, titillate away, but as a pop culture phenomenon I'm disappointed in America. Ooh, she liked it. She hopes her boyfriend don't mind it. Whatever.

So, because I promised fun--here's Jill Sobule's I Kissed A Girl which is 1,000,000 times better and came out in 1995. *does hypno-eyes* downlooaaaad iiiiit

4. I have to send an email out to my best friends who have known me for FIFTEEN YEARS and have suddenly decided en masse this year that we all need to make a list of what we want for our birthdays. I have been putting this off, because I am incapable of asking for stuff. And seriously, FIFTEEN YEARS. I would have thought they knew me well enough by now to buy me a freakin' birthday present, but apparently not.

5. Lastly--for the past few years, my sister has gotten me the SGA DVDs for my birthday, so I don't have much longer to wait, but I just couldn't take it anymore. I broke down and dl'ed the deleted scenes.

Pretty much in every case I think they were right to delete the scenes. They would have slowed down the episodes. But oh--the scene with John, Ronon and Rodney in Rodney's quarters from Miller's Crossing! They're going with him! The manly arm pat! My shipper heart has grown three sizes today. Plus there are wee baby turtles!

And I forget what ep--Reunion, I guess? But I thought it then and I think it now-that painting Ronon had in his room of the warriors on all the red is godawful. I just assumed it was like a velvet Elvis or something? Maybe it had sentimental value? But when Ronon said it came from the military museum on Sateda, all I could think was that the military museum must suck. I know SGA artists can do better--the Harmony painting and all the Rodney portraits from The Game were great, so why does Ronon get saddled with a hideous red thing with no perspective?

6. Okay, lastly for real. I hope everyone on my flist is well. *hugs you all* Tear yourself away from the Olympics for a few minutes and say hi!

ETA: Are you freaking kidding me? Okay. *deep breath* post of happy post of happy

life of argosy, recs
